The decade of the 2010s will go down as the Decade of Mt. SCC. As in a now a 10-year-long streak of South Coast Conference Supremacy titles won by Mt. San Antonio College.
The Mounties and Director of Athletics/Dean Joe Jennum and assistant AD Marc Ruh were awarded the supremacy plaque for the 2018-19 sports season, yet another year where their collective men's and women's sports proved better than the rest, at the conferences's final athletic directors meeting held Monday at Rio Hondo College.
The '18-19 season had more parity than in recent years but it was Mt. SAC that scored 186.5 points to win the title over second-place Cerritos (159), third-place El Camino (156) and fourth-place Long Beach City (152). The Mounties won six SCC crowns including in men's soccer, men's cross country, baseball, softball, and men's/women's swimming and diving.
Cerritos and El Camino matched them in South Coast titles both with six while El Camino scored five championships. The Falcons won in men's/women's soccer, men's/women's basketball, and men's/women's track and field while the Vikings were victorious in men's/women's water polo, women's volleyball, men's basketball, baseball and women's beach volleyball. The Warriors titles were in women's volleyball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, and women's tennis.
While Mt. SAC won the title, it also had the biggest drop by any college in points from the '17-18 season, a slide of 23.5 points. The biggest jump was by fifth-place Chaffey College, from 88 to 99, a school that is leaving the SCC due to realignment to join the brand new Inland Empire Conference for the 2019-20 season.
Finishing in sixth place was Pasadena City, winners of three SCC titles in women's volleyball, baseball, and women's badminton.
