Four Teams Share South Coast Conference Men's Basketball Crowns
It was the more the merrier in the 2025-26 South Coast Conference men's basketball season as four teams shared division titles in South Division co-champions Cerritos and LA Southwest and North Division co-champs Mt. San Antonio and East Los Angeles.
In the case of Cerritos and East LA, both are repeat champions with the Huskies collecting their 10th title in the last 12 seasons. For the Falcons, it was their 30th conference championship in their history after earning the first one back in 1971. Mt. SAC wins its 13th SCC crown and first in two seasons. LA Southwest wins its sixth SCC title and first since 2022.
Cerritos, the #6 team in the final regular season CCCMBCA State Top 30 rankings, finished 24-4 overall and tied #25 LA Southwest with identical 9-1 South Division records. The Falcons lost to the Cougars, 71-66, on Jan. 21 and then rattled off nine straight wins, including the rematch between the teams, 86-69, on Feb. 6. LASW finished 20-8 in the regular season.
State #8-rated Mt. SAC (24-4) defeated #23 ELAC (18-9) by an 87-80 count on Jan. 21, but the Huskies paid them back with an 83-71 victory in the second meeting on Feb. 6. Both squads beat everyone else in the North to each finish 9-1. In crossovers, Cerritos handed both Mt. SAC and East LA defeats, LA Southwest beat ELAC while losing to Mt. SAC.
In the North, LA Trade-Tech (13-15) placed third with a 5-5 mark. In the South, Compton (13-15) was the third place team at 5-5.
The All-South Coast Conference teams were selected Saturday at the SCC Coaches Postseason meeting held at Mt. San Antonio College. The SCC South Player of the Year went to Cerritos' Dorian Tate while Coach of the Year honors were bestowed on the Falcons' Russ May. The SCC North Co-Players of the Year were Mt. SAC's Dayvon Gates and East LA's Terrence Hampton while Coach of the Year went to the Mounties' Michael Fenison.
THREE MAKE IT INTO SOCAL PLAYOFF FIELD
Cerritos nabbed the #3 seed, Mt. San Antonio picks up the #7 spot and East LA is #13 in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, beginning Wednesday, Feb. 25 with Round 1.
